Join Anne Choi of Middle Brook Fiberworks for a hands-on introduction to the beautiful world of botanical dyeing, created especially for yarn and fiber lovers.
Did you know that your garden, and even some of the plants growing wild around you, can provide beautiful, lasting color for wool and other natural fibers?
In this three-hour workshop, Anne will introduce us to the basics of natural dyeing, from understanding how color bonds with fiber to choosing and harvesting plants that produce lasting results. We’ll talk about growing a dye garden of your own, gathering dyestuffs responsibly in the wild, and preparing wool and other natural fibers for the dye pot.
Then we’ll get our hands in the color. Through a combination of demonstration and experimentation, we’ll explore solar dyeing, immersion dyeing, and botanical eco-printing, discovering how different plants, techniques, and fibers can produce wonderfully varied results.
Each participant will leave with naturally dyed yarn and fabric swatches, along with the knowledge and inspiration to begin experimenting with botanical color at home.
No previous dyeing experience is necessary. All materials and equipment are provided.
Participants are also welcome to bring a small amount of their own wool yarn or natural fiber to experiment with.
